If you enjoy saving money, cashback apps are one of the easiest ways to reduce your everyday expenses in the Netherlands. Instead of searching for discounts every time you shop, cashback apps reward you simply for making purchases you were already planning to make.
Whether you’re buying groceries, clothes or booking a holiday, cashback can help you get part of your money back. While the savings from a single purchase may seem small, they can add up to hundreds of euros over the course of a year.
In this guide, I’ll explain how cashback works and which cashback apps are worth using in the Netherlands.
What is cashback?
Cashback means receiving a percentage of your purchase price back after completing a transaction.
For example, if you spend €100 at an online retailer offering 5% cashback, you’ll receive €5 back after your purchase is confirmed.
Unlike discount codes, cashback is usually paid after your purchase and can often be withdrawn to your bank account once you’ve reached the minimum payout.

1. Woolsocks
By using the Woolsocks app you will receive automatic cashback in many purchases you make with your linked bank account.
There are thousands of stores in the Woolsocks app where you can get cashback. You can choose to get the cashback money back to your account, buy a gift card or donate it to charities.
What I particularly like is that by buying and paying with giftcards you can get more that 5% cashback. Also I love to try the free or heavily discounted products that are promoted in the app. For this you have to upload your receipt. While we do not really do a lot of purchases we managed to get € 222 cashback per year for the last 2 years.
You can achieve more of 35% discount if you add up the giftcard cashback the free products and the discounted products of Albert heijn since they add up!
2. CashbackXL
I sometimes use CashbackXL, which provides a lot of savings through cashback and discounts.
It works similar to the Woolsocks app.
Currently, as a new user, you will receive a €2.50 bonus at CashbackXL when signing up.
3. Tikkie
Tikkie is a payment request app. It lets people send payment requests to friends or split bills. What I like is that it has also have deals in which you can can get cashback. What you need to do is to purchase the product of your liking, upload the receipt to the tikkie app and get your cashback!
Cashback vs. Loyalty Programs: What’s the Difference?
Although cashback apps and loyalty programs both help you save money, they work in different ways.
Cashback apps give you a percentage of your purchase back after you shop.
Loyalty programs, reward you with points, discounts, exclusive offers, or free products for shopping regularly at the same retailer.
What I like is that I can combine both. I activate cashback before shopping online and still earn loyalty points from the retailer at the same time.

Until next time, stay savvy.
